I was born and raised in the Flathead Valley in a large family, working various jobs for neighbors as a teenager, including farming, irrigation, and weeding Christmas trees and peppermint. I played all the sports available in the valley and participated in 4H. My family raised a variety of animals, which often brought the veterinarian to our home. I was fascinated by their knowledge and care, and I dreamed of becoming a veterinarian myself.
After high school, I worked in the telecommunication industry for several years. Encouraged by my wife Stephanie and others, I enrolled at Montana State University to pursue a degree in veterinary medicine, followed by veterinary school at Washington State University.
I worked in Havre, Montana, as a mixed animal practitioner and did relief work in various veterinary clinics around Washington state, giving practitioners much-needed breaks. I also received certification in Animal Chiropractic Care.
